Hannah Yasin – A career switch to find passion in her career

Published on November 27, 2023

Hannah Yasin has a PhD in Physics and has worked in academia for years. Only after that did she realize she wanted to pursue something that gives her more joy doing. Through learning opportunities over the course of her career switch, she found Process Mining, loved it, and is here to share about it.

Tell us about your career path into Process Mining?

My career path into Process Mining was actually a (very) happy accident! After obtaining my PhD and working in academia for a year, I decided to change course and went with a job that involved working with people. That started with an IT Consulting job, focusing on AI and Machine Learning. In the job, I got offered an opportunity to learn about process mining in order to have the skills to provide support in a new project – and I was happy to! The project turned out to be great fun: a mixture of data puzzles, understanding the hard-work people put into their jobs but also providing them with solutions in order to make their lives easier. And ever since then that’s what I’ve been doing.

Personally, what do you think is most interesting about using process mining?

Being able to use data to make decisions! It feels nice to have data confirming your gut feeling, and also how you could simplify processes and help other people’s jobs become easier. At the same time, working with processes is never boring, with the huge complexities and challenges it brings. And of course, it feels rewarding once the work you put in with process mining yields great results.

How can your experience inspire others looking for a career in Process Mining?

I hope that my career path shows there isn’t a need to have a certain background. If you think you have interest in delving into process mining, you’re good to go! Plus, there are so many different options for a career here. Building event logs? Thinking of concepts? We need all that. There’s a spot for everyone.
