Our data engineering team is expanding, so we're looking for a Competence Lead in Data & Platform Engineering with solid experience in the Azure ecosystem. You're eager to share your knowledge and expertise with your colleagues and know how to empower customers with your expertise. Your role & responsibilities:
- Architecture design: Designing robust, scalable, and cost-effective data platform architectures, primarily within the Azure ecosystem.
- Strategic advice: Translating complex business requirements into technical Azure solutions; advising clients on strategic choices and roadmaps for their data landscape.
- Customer needs: In sales processes, you'll be expected to question the customer, find a suitable solution, and describe it, including the approach and lead times. You'll be supported by the commercial team, but you'll play a key role in convincing the customer that we can truly help them!
- Standards & best practices: Define and monitor architectural standards, blueprints, and best practices for Azure data solutions within Bright Cape.
- Technology selection: Evaluate and select appropriate Azure services and technologies (e.g., Fabric, ADF, Databricks, Purview) for specific use cases.
- Governance & security: Designing strategies and implementation patterns for data governance, security, and monitoring on Azure platforms.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Leading the architecture design phase of projects; sharing knowledge and mentoring (senior) data engineers on architecture. In this role, you will work as a competency lead, with the team lead responsible for people.
- Vision & Strategy: Actively contribute to the vision and strategy of our Azure Data Platform team and offering.

Your Profile:
- Experience: Approximately 4+ years of relevant experience in data engineering/architecture, with a demonstrable focus on designing Azure data platforms.
- Azure expertise: In-depth, hands-on knowledge of Azure data services and architecture patterns. Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are a strong plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with data modelling, schema design.
- Solid understanding of DevOps/DataOps (CI/CD, IaC), Infrastructure as Code is a plus.
- Programming skills (Python, SQL, PySpark, Polars).
- Experience in designing end-to-end pipelines and architectures.
- Knowledge of workflow management tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster) is an advantage.
- Education: Relevant technical academic degree (e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics/Physics, Electrical Engineering, Econometrics).
- Competencies: Strategic thinker, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills (NL/EN) to explain complex designs to various stakeholders.
